cePilgrimage to Mt samat

anMt samat

I went to a pilgrimage last weekend to Mt Samat.

i was not really planning to join the annual mass on top of the mountain, but then since I haven’t been there, I thought of giving it a try. I went with Neil, his girlfriend- Rose, Melanie, lallaine and Lorenza.

I was really disappointed because I cannot send the pictures from my cellphone. My cellphone hangs.

It took as 2 hours to climb the steep, winding, asphalt road to the top. It would have taken me a bit faster if lallaine did not stop me for her numerous “upo muna tayo… rest rest!” complains.

I would either take her hand to support her, or let her cling on my sweating, sticky sleeve as we follow the gang of Letran students. We wre always left out by the group. She loves resting in the most unlikely places, on top of a boulder(where my leg cramped), on the edge of the cliff….

The climb was sooper dee dooper exhausting (make that double since I was babysitting her).

Since we are Nursing students, the talk was usually centered on our fluids and electrolytes losses. We were really thankful of the (uhm.. they really hate me for this) the pack of 84 peso worth potato chips that I bought, since it is high in cholesterol (for energy) and skyrocketing in its Sodium content ( an essential electrolyte).

And yeah, we also talked about the storm… according to them, a storm always comes here in the country whenever the mass is scheduled, but no matter how high the signal here in bataan is, the weather is always as sunny as it was last weekend… and during those times, the storm would always devastate other neighboring provinces, sparing bataan…

It’s the miracle of the whole “sacrifice” according to them. Making Neil shout the YFC slogan printed on his shirt “SOLO DIOS BASTA!”

Anyway, it took us only 1 and a half hour to climb down.

Nice of you to be able to climb, even if it took too long due to your extra babysitting job…. I’ve been to Bataan, once, that was on the 80’s, pass that cross and has never been their since then. But I’ve read a book about it.
